Ernie's Story - Lipoma (A fatty tumor that is not cancerous but can grow to a size that interferes with nerve function in
the spine causing paralysis)
The lipoma on my lower back just left of my spine had doubled in size in the last two years. The words "inoperable"
and "potential paralysis" wandered in and out of my mind. My intuitive diagnosis was later confirmed by a Canadian
physician who witnessed my surgery with John of God.
So here I was in the middle of the Brazilian jungle. The "surgeon" with only a second grade education didn't
do any pre-op preparation, use anesthesia, IV's, or blood pressure readings. His surgery instruments were scapels and unsterilized
forceps.
In spite of all that, during my surgery I felt total peace and hardly any pain. A few minutes after it was over, the Canadian
physician explained that John of God would not "stitch" the wound since it was so close to the spine.
Two hours later, I was in my hotel room feeling elated and in radiant health. Two days after my surgery, with continued
applications of nothing more than holy water on my wound, it had healed to a small scratch.
As I sat with others who had come to the Casa for a healing, we shared our stories. There was one woman from Boston with
stage 4 pancreatic cancer that began to reverse, another from Vermont with systemic sclerosis that virtually shut down her
kidneys and attacked her heart now in recovery. A third woman on the brink of death now recovered from AIDS.
But I also saw God's miracles with my friends who journeyed with me as well. A young parapalegic woman who I knew for
years, on her final day, was able with assistance to take her first steps. She had been thrown from a car when it hit a tree,
and it had bounced off and run over her lower back. Dr. Mary Jo Van Dam, who had a "hunchback" condition for 60
years, because of childhood scoliosis, in a divine instant found her back straightened. Rev. Jerry Rance could take his first
deep breath since his open-heart operation, as the leaks in his heart valves sealed. And more importantly, he experienced
his first week of having a deep sleep in more than 5 years since his previously enlarged prostate required him to take hourly
trips to the bathroom.
We've been given a second chance at health and extended time with our families. We are all truly blessed. Believe in miracles.
